The Decline of Humanity in the United States: Asylum Restrictions Continue

By Haley Lyons, Social Media Fellow

Every day, the news presents us with more and more heartbreaking news about the status of immigrants in the United States. The Trump administration has caused infinite turmoil, not just for American citizens, but for those seeking asylum as well. Just this week, Attorney Jeff Sessions drastically limited the scope of asylum, ultimately preventing likely tens of thousands of people from applying for asylum in the U.S. While people fleeing gang violence or domestic abuse could previously qualify for asylum, this change would make them unable to apply for asylum. Under the Trump administration, we have seen a blatant “disregard [for]  basic humanity”1 time and time again. This new decision simply continues down that toxic path.

However, not all hope is lost. There continue to be more and more ways to help those that face the effects of racism and prejudice. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the National Immigrant Law Center (NILC), and Human Rights Watch are just a few of the organizations that exist to help immigrants succeed in the United States. Locally, The Right To Immigration Institute (TRII) can be found in Waltham, MA. You can donate to TRII here:
